This is one talented lady who plays in a whole lotta bands, including FM Belfast, Prins Póló and Mum. I wouldn't be surprised if Lóa performs in others, I simply can't keep track. Not to discredit any of the other fantastic women I was fortunate enough to photograph, but Lóa was the most outspoken in agreeing with me on the importance of highlighting the women of the festival. She commented that while women aren't not underrepresented in the music scene, it still felt to her as if they were. In our conversation she also explained that the small park I photographed her in used to be a cemetery. We only spent 10 minutes together, but Lóa struck me as woman with whom I share certain affinities: an appreciation for the past and a desire to continue to improve what lays ahead.

Have to drum scan these first two images... expired and underexposed film.. sigh..
Haukur's my man in plaid and glasses... he's the brilliant editor in chief of the Grapevine. He kept us in check and insisted that we have as much fun as possible. Demanding guy...

These guys were pretty f***ing awesome.. saw them do an acoustic (more-or-less) set at a hostel and perhaps I liked that more.. check 'em out. There was a rumor floating around the festival that they were royalty (?) Oh those Brits.

As if I wasn't already feeling enough like Annie Leibovitz for Rolling Stone, I was seated in the rockstar section of the airplane last night. I had to control myself from giggling when I saw who I was seated next to. Members from bands I'd spent the previous four nights running around to see and photograph surrounded me with their instruments and hangovers. And now real life resumes.. But there are many more photos to post so at least I can prolong the incredible experience a bit more.
This is Diamond Rings. Start listening to him. His pretty feminine face is humorously incongruous with his dry sense of humor and deep voice. We checked in at the airport together. I think he caught me staring.

This is what happens when you hang out with Angel Deradoorian... you know. I had to suppress the tremendous urge, inspired by several beers, to run up to her and say hi, you live in Brooklyn right by my best friend Sara, I live in Brooklyn too. Instead I managed to play it cool and do my job, taking photos...but now I can say I've met Bjork in Iceland, which is naturally on my list of things to do before I die. Its doubtful that it was a special moment for her, but its one I'll remember hopefully as long as I remember who she is.

Joshua at the end of the first day of 6th grade. He postures as a little man, but his heart is that of a little boy. I sat with him while he tried to fall asleep that night, his stomach wrecked with anxiety about day two. I couldn't help but be reminded of my own problems falling asleep as a child, needing my parents to stay with me until I was truly fast asleep, sitting up with a start and beginning to cry if I heard them trying to leave my bedroom. I empathized deeply with Josh. I turned his alarm clock out of sight so he couldn't read the illuminated red numbers that reminded both of us just how long one night can be.
